Alaska Sea Kayaking

Sea Kayaking in Kenai Fjords National Park

Just steps from the main lodge, Pedersen Lagoon is a kayaker’s wonderland; glide amid harbor seals and glittering glacial ice against the dramatic background of Pedersen Glacier. For novice kayakers, these sheltered waters provide an ideal venue to hone skills, although paddlers of any experience level are sure to appreciate the spectacular setting.

For those seeking a more ambitious day of kayaking, join a day-long paddle to the outer bay and wander your kayak along the stunning coastline, keeping an eye out for seals and otters. This is also an excellent opportunity for bird watching; each year, more than 50,000 seabirds flock to the Kenai Fjords, including common murres and black-legged kittiwakes. Midday, land on a pebbled beach in full view of Aialik Glacier - the perfect venue to enjoy a picnic lunch and watch for dramatic glacial calving.
