Seward: the Gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park
Located roughly 2.5 hours south of Anchorage, the small community of Seward, Alaska acts as the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park. Boat access to Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge departs from the Seward Harbor; this transfer to the Glacier Lodge doubles as a marine wildlife and glacier cruise in Kenai Fjords National Park. Here, further your exploration of the Kenai Fjords with guided sea kayaking and hiking excursions.
To ensure our guests are rested and ready for the morning departure to the Glacier Lodge, we recommend booking accommodations in Seward the night prior to your Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge package; please visit our Recommended Accommodations page for suggested lodging in Seward.Options for travel to/from Seward for the Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge
Due to the logistics of getting to this remote Alaskan paradise, it's almost always necessary to spend a night in Seward prior to starting your trip with us. Here are a few suggestions! (Click on the links at the beginning of each suggestion for more details!)
1. Stay with us! We can pick you up in Anchorage between 2:30 and 3 pm and bring you to our lodge in Cooper Landing. When you arrive, we'll show you to your private riverside cabin, provide a four course meal in our Kenai Riverside Lodge and take you to Seward to meet the boat in the morning after breakfast! When you return from Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge, we'll take you to meet the train from Seward back to Anchorage. This particular section of the Alaska Railroad is really spectacular, and a bit different view than the Seward highway. Arrive in Anchorage by 10:30 pm. (Additional $425 per person)
2. Alaska Railroad. Arrive in Seward a day early by taking the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Seward. Spend a day exploring Seward and spend a night in this charming town before departing to Kenai Fjords Glacier Lodge. When you return from the lodge, we can have you back at the depot before it departs back to Anchorage at 6:00 p.m. Visit www.alaskarailroad.com for rates and reservations.
3. The Parks Connection, a motor coach company that provides connections between Seward, Anchorage and Denali. Meet the bus at 7 am at the Egan Center in downtown Anchorage, arrive in Seward at 9:45 am. Take this day to explore Seward! It's a really beautiful town with a lot to offer. Don't miss the Sea Life Center! You would need to book this mode of transportation on your own, but do consider mixing it up. Take the Parks Connection to Seward, take the Alaska Railroad back!
4. Hertz Rental Car This is the only rental car company in Seward, but it also happens to be directly next to our office in Seward. Don't forget to change it up! You could rent a Hertz car in Anchorage, drop it off in Seward and then take the train back! One way cars can sometimes be difficult to rent, so book in advance. If you don't have a Hertz car, we will certainly find a suitable place to park your car while you're at our lodge.
